Artist Biography
Born in Lucerne in 1966, Seylech developed a deep fascination with color, form, and artistic expression at an early age. After completing an apprenticeship as a baker and confectioner, he applied to the Lucerne School of Applied Arts. In retrospect, being rejected marked the beginning of an independent artistic journey. Driven by an inner calling, he pursued his own path—independently, self-taught, and with unwavering dedication. Art museums, galleries, and an intensive study of important artists became his teachers.
In 1992, he met his future wife, Franziska. With her encouragement, Seylech leaped into self-employment as a freelance artist in 1999—a courageous decision made while building a family with their three children.
Seylech’s oeuvre now comprises more than 2,750 works, many held in private collections as well as in companies, clinics, banks, medical practices, and public spaces in Switzerland and abroad.
His visual language is direct, powerful, and unmistakably his own. With a keen sense of color, form, and composition, he creates works of great expressive power. In his oil paintings, he applies paint generously to the canvas and works it with brushes, palette knives, or directly with his hands. This direct approach gives his paintings depth, vibrancy, and a distinctive physical presence.
Deeply connected to nature, Seylech finds inspiration every day in the beauty of heaven and earth. Natural materials such as wood, crystals, and gold leaf become an organic part of his work, interwoven with recurring motifs of the sun, light, and the universe. His works invite viewers to look beyond the visible and rediscover the interconnectedness of nature, humanity, and creation.
Seylech lives and works with his wife, Franziska, in Brienzwiler in the Bernese Oberland. His studio and two galleries, in Brienzwiler and Brienz, are also located there and can be visited by appointment.
