134th Entry, Brienzwiler
“Flickflauder”
I will rarely or never show this work. The right wing – a piece of wood found in the fores t –was the inspiration for this piece with the name Flickflauder, which is the Appenzeller Innerrhoder dialect word for butterfly. The left wing was very clumsily painted and not at all like I wanted. Franziska scored this artwork a 2 on a scale from 1-10.
Her remark bothers me a lot and causes me to think. I hesitated and let this sink in. I like the bold materials: a brass star, a round lapis lazuli stone, upholstery nails, and a wood and steel frame. The transparent background with the colorful dots that look like little soap bubbles bursting in the wind appeals to me. The golden wing is strange but good and beautiful.
This unique butterfly will find its way, and when it flies, the music of Franz Liszt entitled “La Campanella” will accompany it.
