142nd Entry, Brienzwiler
It’s only been a few days since we returned from our trip to Egypt. The impressions and feelings are still fresh and linger with me in the studio.
It is difficult to select single moments–such a wealth of encounters, people, temples, pyramids, birds, plants, and begging children who unfortunately must grow up far too early.
The balloon ride over Luxor and boat ride on the Nile to the Aswan Dam and back were meditative and a blessing for the soul. So many ruined temples–strange and impressive, breathtakingly magnificent and sublime in their heyday.
We spent the last two nights in Cairo, a city with twenty-two million inhabitants. I did not see an automobile there that was free of rust, dents, or cracks. The cars from my childhood are omnipresent there. I don’t think anyone there is interested in emissions regulations. My throat is still sore from all of the smog.
And then, early in the morning at seven, I had the fortune to be the first to enter the pyramid of Khufu. Alone, I swiftly followed the guide to the Grand Gallery and continued through to the granite stones that were slid down to seal the tunnel, and on to the heart of the pyramid, the Main Chamber. I became very lively and joyful and let it all sink in. I find it hard to believe that everything here is of earthly origin. “Star siblings” leave traces behind…
Of course, I also had a crystal sun with me, “Cheops”, and I had a photograph of it taken of me with it in front of the Cheops pyramid and in front of the three Pyramids of Giza.
