Pulsating Life

The underwater world is so different. Spending a week on the Red Sea was good for me. I encountered creatures that I don’t usually get to see up close: colorful hard and soft corals, fish from tiny to large, and everything in between, with bright, vivid colors. Oh, how wonderful it was!

I was given a special gift in the form of fifteen dolphins (bottlenose dolphins): alone I dived, played, and watched them–or they watched me–for fifteen minutes! It was a flowing and dancing–a sense of being connected to life and creation. I wanted to incorporate this pulsing of creation somehow, this experience, this encounter into my artistic practice and make it visible.

No sooner had I gotten home than I got started: a rhubarb leaf in our garden seemed to be just the right material to give this feeling visibility. I perceive all of nature as highly vibrating, electric, and constantly dancing lightly. The acrylic print of the mighty rhubarb leaf expresses this very well:
