110th entry, Brienzwiler

Sometimes a frame can be a great inspiration – just like the one pictured here.
About once a month I go to Boesner, which is a specialty artists’ supply store. In a box filled with custom-made frames that were not correctly sized as ordered, I found a small baroque frame measuring 24 x 30 cm.

For this particular dimension, I use a wooden base as a painting surface and start working with it that very afternoon. I have always liked baroque frames: they electrify me and make my artist’s heart beat faster.  I create a golden background, pasty textures with a steel ball as a resting pole, and a clear, straight rock crystal as a connection to the sky that makes the work simple yet perfect. Once the first piece was finished, it was followed by three more. Without having planned that a small series will be created, I just let it happen: The Sun Series I-IV.
